Hallo zusammen,
Sorry for posting in English, learning German will be my second goal during my stay in Bremen! I will be starting the ATPL course in June and this week I need to make a decision regarding the sign-on bonus: either receiving it at the start of the training or deducing it from the training fees to be paid back once in an airline (I choose the deferred payment option).
Could someone currently doing his training confirm that if the bonus is received it will not be subjected to any kind of tax? Considering that I could barely bear the expenses of the two years of training without the bonus and relying on my savings only, this question is important...
Thanks for your help! |

Hey, thanks for your replies! I had understood that the bonus might be tax-free from emails exchanged with LAT but it's better to have the confirmation from the students themselves, thanks for that.
It seems to be working the same way for foreigners like me: we are asked to specify an IBAN and they would transfer the bonus on the account after the start of the training. |

It's tax free because it's a pay-out of a loan.
If you get a loan from a bank to buy a house, you don't pay taxes on what the bank transfers you. It's not your money, you'll pay everything back later. |

Yes that's true, this sounds fair. The question in the end was then whether it is declared by EFA as a loan as a part of the training costs or as a regular bonus unrelated to the training costs debt. Now I have the answer, thanks |
